Hi Internet, I’m Katie. Thanks for stopping by! Please allow me to introduce myself:
I’m a thirty-something living in Chicago with my English bulldog, Walter. I’ve fallen in love with Chi-town in my 12+ years here, but I haven’t always been a city girl. I grew up in a small town in central Illinois. The kind of place that is surrounded by cornfields and shuts down on Friday nights for high school football games. I attended the University of Illinois in Champaign, and two weeks after graduation, I moved to Chicago with three of my best friends, an internship in PR and grand visions of what my new city life would be.
Fast forward a decade (plus), and here I am starting my career over. Although I worked hard to climb the corporate ladder, making my way from intern to a Director of Communications, I wasn’t fulfilled in my work. Deep down, I knew PR wasn’t my calling. The problem was, I wasn’t sure just what my calling was…
Then last year when both my brother and sister got married within six months of each other, I had the privilege of planning and designing multiple events for them – bridal showers, bachelorette parties, a rehearsal dinner and a wedding – and it finally clicked. This is the kind of work I should be doing! I want to spend my time planning parties that bring family and friends together. Over the past year, I had been lucky enough to experience that magical type of happiness that is only possible when everyone you love is in the same room. And now I understood that I could make a living out of creating that kind of happiness for others. What could possibly be better than that?!
So I got to work creating my own event and floral design company, Theme Come True. My goal with the company is to help people host personalized, Pinterest-worthy events that are beautiful, creative and fun. Whether that’s your dream wedding, your best friend’s bridal shower or your child’s first birthday, I want to help create the perfect event for you. (In other words, I want to make your theme come true…)
And as part of that, I started this blog as a way to connect with other party people. I wanted a place where we can share ideas and inspiration, but also engage in a little bit of 'real talk.' I know creating the perfect event isn't always cupcakes and roses. So I'm hoping this is a place where we can talk about the good, the gorgeous and the not-quite-perfect parts of party design.
On this blog, I plan to share:
So please, come along with me on this ride. No matter where it takes us, I promise that we will help each other remember that life should not only be lived, it should be celebrated.
So what are we waiting for? Let’s party!
